Inter President Beppe Marotta confirms Tajon Buchanan underwent ‘successful’ surgery for a fractured tibia but rules out signing Marcos Alonso or Albert Gudmundsson.
Marotta spoke to reporters before the announcement of the Serie A 2024/25 fixture list.
The Nerazzurri right wing-back Buchanan suffered a severe tibia injury while on international duty with Canada and is expected to remain out of action for over four months.
“We are sorry because he’s a young lad, but we have information that the surgery was successful,” Marotta said, as quoted by Gazzetta.
“We’ll see what to do, but the team remains highly competitive.”
This means the Nerazzurri are not yet looking for a replacement.
“I’ve read many names, including those of Marcos Alonso and Gudmundsson, but I rule them out today. Our team is already strong.”
Genoa President Alberto Zangrillo, on the other hand, claimed that Inter were interested in Gudmundsson but wanted to sign him “for free” so on loan with an option to buy.
Lautaro Martinez will surely stay at Inter and sign a new contract with the Serie A giants after his return from Copa America, while Genoa keeper Josep Martinez is undergoing his medical with the Nerazzurri.
“We are happy that Lautaro will stay and that he’s our leader. He has great human qualities and he will wear the Nerazzurri shirt for a few more years,” concluded Marotta.
The first 2024-25 derby della Madonnina will take place pretty soon with Inter and Milan meeting on Matchday 5.
