Marquinhos has written his name into the record books, drawing level with Roberto Carlos as the Brazilian with the most appearances in UEFA Champions League history.

The milestone was reached as soon as PSG’s semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich kicked off, with both defenders now sitting on 120 matches in Europe’s top competition.

The 31-year-old has built his entire Champions League career at Paris Saint-Germain, featuring in 13 consecutive editions of the tournament. His record now stands at 120 appearances, alongside 67 wins, 21 draws and 32 defeats, plus 11 goals - as well as the Champions League title he lifted last season.

Roberto Carlos, meanwhile, reached his tally across 12 seasons in the competition, winning it three times with Real Madrid. The legendary left-back finished his European career with 16 goals in the tournament.

Marquinhos is expected to play in the return leg against Bayern next week, where he will have the chance to move clear of the joint record.
