Just months after leaving RC Lens, Jean Onana (23) is set for a return to Ligue 1. The Cameroon midfielder is on the very of joining Olympique de Marseille, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The former Girondins de Bordeaux and Lille OSC midfielder left Lens last summer to join Beşiktaş in a €4m deal. However, Onana has been utilised sparingly during his short spell in Turkey, playing just 188 minutes for the club. Marseille, who are contending with multiple AFCON absences, as well as an injury to captain Valentin Rongier, are short in the midfield area.
OM had looked to reinforce their midfield with the arrival of Lucien Agoumé from Inter Milan, however, that move broke down at the last minute, and the Frenchman will now instead join Sevilla. It is therefore Onana who is set to arrive at the Vélodrome imminently.
Onana will join Marseille on loan with an option to make the deal permanent, according to Romano and L’Équipe report that the Cameroon international, who has not been called up for AFCON, will likely be available for selection when OM face RC Strasbourg Alsace next Friday.
