Pierre-Emile Højbjerg will miss Olympique de Marseille’s Coupe de France quarter-final against Toulouse after picking up his fifth booking of the season, reports La Provence.
The Danish international was cautioned during OM’s 2-0 defeat away to Brest on Friday night, a result that compounded a difficult spell for the club. Wearing the captain’s armband in Finistère, Højbjerg’s yellow card triggered an automatic suspension, ruling him out of the meeting with Toulouse FC on March 4 at the Stade Vélodrome.
Crucially for OM, Højbjerg remains available for Sunday’s Ligue 1 encounter against Olympique Lyonnais. The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder had previously been booked against Angers and Toulouse in Ligue 1, as well as against Paris Saint-Germain in the Trophée des Champions and Rennes in the Coupe de France. His latest caution brings his tally to five across domestic competitions, activating the suspension that will apply to the cup fixture.GFFN | George Boxall
