Marseille sporting director Gregory Lorenzi has addressed Sunderland’s pursuit of Igor Paixao, with the Black Cats yet to strike a deal. He spoke of the winger’s importance while leaving room for movement in the final days of the window.
"There's no power struggle with Sunderland. When you're a sporting director or coach, you naturally want to keep your best players." He was speaking to RMC Sport.
"Igor is a pretty important player for OM, so that doesn't mean he'll leave. There are still a few days left in the transfer window, and a lot can still happen."
"There are constraints related to the economic aspect with regard to UEFA and the DNCG [French football's financial watchdog]. Even if we sell a player, we won't be allowed to register a new arrival."
"I don't want to talk about transfers… We're following Marseille's situation, which isn't the easiest. But with the people at the club, they can achieve success."
Speaking after Friday's Europa League draw, he said: "I'm more of a supporter than anything else. But OM remains close to my family."
