Olympique de Marseille will spend the week in Marbella as head coach Habib Beye looks to halt an alarming slump and rebuild belief, after Friday’s 2-0 loss at Brest again exposed a lack of cohesion, intensity and conviction.
The trip, agreed by Beye and the hierarchy, is designed to lift the squad out of the increasingly heavy mood at La Commanderie. Previous mid-season retreats have brought short-lived resets, but the urgency is greater now.
“We’ve lost confidence between ourselves,” said goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli. “I hope this week in Spain helps us find solutions. Leaving La Commanderie, leaving Marseille, can help us mentally.” He told L’Équipe.
Beye has overseen just one full training session so far and intends to concentrate on hard work, installing his methods during a rare uninterrupted week on the training ground.
The report said the focus will be on athletic density, with Marseille’s numbers at Brest again pointing to physical inferiority. Against Strasbourg the previous week, eight of the 10 top distance runners were opposition players. For a side seeking greater verticality and sharper transitions, the figures are damning.
Les Olympiens are due back 48 hours before facing Lyon in a key clash in the Champions League qualification race, then a Coupe de France quarter-final against Toulouse follows the next midweek.
