According to L’Équipe, a decision has been taken regarding the future of Lilian Brassier (25). The Frenchman arrived at Olympique de Marseille on a loan deal that included an obligation to buy, worth around €12m, from Stade Brestois at the start of the season.
One of the protagonists of Brest’s incredible third-place finish in Ligue 1 last season, Brassier has fallen significantly short of expectations and has lost his place in the Marseille side. There are concerns internally at OM regarding the centre-back’s ability to handle the pressure of playing at the club.
Les Phocéens therefore want to offload the Frenchman, although that will be difficult. It would mean breaking the loan deal with Brest and triggering the obligation clause early, however, the Breton club want to count the €12m in next season’s accounts. There are nonetheless talks to break this impasse.
Should an agreement be reached, there is no shortage of suitors, despite Brassier’s difficulties in recent months. Stade Rennais have previously been cited as a potential destination whilst an offer has also been received from a Bundesliga club. Both VfB Stuttgart and Wolfsburg are interested in the player.
RC Lens, who are set to lose Abdukodir Khusanov, are also interested in Brassier, according to L’Équipe.
