The Bruno Génésio era begins in earnest at Olympique de Marseille in tonight’s Ligue 1 curtain-raiser against RC Strasbourg Alsace. It’s been a bruising summer for Les Phocéens, who, due to their current financial situation, have had the usual chaotic outgoings, but have been stripped of their usual frenetic incomings. 

A rather makeshift squad has been assembled with Amine Harit and Angel Gomes starting tonight, despite it looking like their time at the club had finished, with both being shipped off on loan after being unable to live up to expectations during Roberto De Zerbi’s time with the club. 

In goal, Gerónimo Rulli’s departure to Manchester City means that Jeffrey de Lange will come into the season as the first-choice goalkeeper. He made five appearances for the club last season, conceding 11 goals and keeping one clean sheet.
