Olympique de Marseille president Pablo Longoria has confirmed that Ethan Nwaneri’s loan move from Arsenal does not include an option to buy, describing such a clause as “unrealistic” given the Premier League club’s long-term plans for the teenager.

Nwaneri made an immediate impact following his arrival in Marseille, scoring a spectacular goal on his debut against RC Lens just 24 hours after signing. The England youth international’s performance has already sparked excitement at the Vélodrome, but Longoria was keen to clarify the framework of the deal in an interview with The Telegraph.

“An option to buy? Let’s be very clear about one thing: an option to buy is unrealistic,” Longoria said.“He is one of Arsenal’s main assets for the future.”“For us, the value lies in his talent and his sporting performances,” the OM president explained. “For Arsenal, it’s about his contribution to the game, and for the player, it’s a step in his progression and the fact of being coached by Roberto [De Zerbi].GFFN | George Boxall
