Marseille reach €25m agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Facundo Medina | OneFootball

Olympique de Marseille have reached an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for the transfer of Facundo Medina (27), according to a report from L’Équipe.

The Bundesliga side will pay an initial €23m for the Argentina international, with a further €2m potentially due in bonuses. Medina has already agreed personal terms with Leverkusen and is expected to sign a contract lasting around five years upon his return from holiday.

Leverkusen had stepped up their pursuit of the former RC Lens defender in recent days. An opening offer was rejected by Marseille, but the German club returned with an improved proposal that has now been accepted.

The sale will provide a significant boost to Marseille’s finances as the club continue to reshape their squad this summer. Medina only arrived at the Vélodrome last year after establishing himself as one of Ligue 1’s most reliable defenders during his time with Lens.

The 27-year-old’s expected departure represents another major change to the Marseille squad, with the Provence club also close to selling goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli to Manchester City.

Medina will now travel to Germany after his holiday to complete the final formalities and sign his contract with Leverkusen.GFFN | George Boxall
