Marseille women’s side to play first-ever match at the Vélodrome

Olympique de Marseille have announced that their women’s side will make history by playing their first-ever match at the Stade Vélodrome on 28th March. The match falls on Matchday 19 of the Première Ligue, will see OM host Montpellier HSC at 18:30 local time on 28th March. Les Marseillaises have never previously played a competitive fixture at the 67,000-capacity stadium. OM’s women side was originally founded in 1920 before being dissolved in 1986. The women’s side was reinstated in its current form in 2011, and have been oscillating between the first and second division since. OM have confirmed that entry to the fixture will be free of charge, with supporters required to reserve tickets via the club’s official platform.Corinne Diacre’s side currently sit ninth in the Première League, after returning to the top of flight following promotion from the second division last season. Following in the footsteps of OL Lyonnes, Marseille became the second French side to undergo a full re-brand to become Les Marseillaises.
