Olympique de Marseille will hold a crisis meeting with supporters, players, coaching staff, and club executives on Monday at the Commanderie training ground, according to reports from ICI Provence.
The meeting comes after growing unrest among supporter groups, who formally requested talks following Marseille’s Champions League elimination at the hands of Club Brugge on Wednesday night. The club has agreed to the request in an attempt to ease mounting tensions during a turbulent period.
Representatives of the supporter groups are expected to meet with senior figures from the club, including head coach Roberto De Zerbi, members of the board, and first-team players.
While the meeting was triggered by the European exit, other recent flashpoints are likely to be discussed. Marseille conceded a late equaliser against Paris FC at the weekend, while an altercation between Geoffrey Kondogbia and Arthur Vermeeren during training was revealed on Sunday evening by La Provence.
Michael Amir Murillo told to leave the club
De Zerbi has found himself at the centre of a particularly stormy week. The Italian coach has reportedly held discussions with the club’s hierarchy regarding a potential departure, while La Provence also claims he strongly criticised Amir Murillo over defensive errors that led to goals. Murillo was subsequently dropped to the reserve side and allegedly told to find a new club before the end of the transfer window.
This latest episode follows earlier internal tensions during the summer, including a training-ground altercation involving Adrien Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe, both of whom have since left the club. After a promising first half of the season, Marseille now appear to be entering another period of instability.
The timing of the meeting is significant. Marseille face Stade Rennais on Tuesday in the Coupe de France round of 16, before travelling to Paris on Sunday to face Paris Saint-Germain in Le Classique.GFFN | George Boxall
