Martim Fernandes delivered an outstanding display in the clássico victory over Benfica despite suffering a broken nose in an early collision with Sidny Cabral. According to O Jogo, the FC Porto right-back will be available for Sunday’s trip to Guimarães.
He played on with the fracture until being replaced late on by Alberto Costa in the 1-0 Taça de Portugal win. He changed shirts several times as blood followed sharper movements, yet he stood firm.
The numbers underlined it, with 100 per cent of his ground duels won, eight in total, plus five tackles, two clearances and seven defensive actions.
He also completed three of five long passes, made two deliveries into the final third and came away successful whenever he drove at defenders. The coach praised his display, highlighting quality in attack and defence and his reading of space.
It marked his fifth consecutive start. In Guimarães he should wear a protective mask, with the short turnaround not allowing the fracture to consolidate.
