FC Barcelona fight to the death at the San Siro but it was simply not to be their night. From questionable decisions to crucial goals, this was a game for the ages. Just like the first leg, this game ended 3-3 during normal time, but the twist came late in extra-time as Inter Milan would score against Barcelona.
Still, managing to come back from being 2-0 down against Inter Milan yet again is no small feat. A fight till the end from both teams, but it was ultimately the Serie A giants that came out on top. Nonetheless, certain Barcelona players can be proud of themselves.
Here are the player ratings for Barcelona.
Player Ratings:
Wojciech Szczesny: 7.5
Hard to say he could have done much better in terms of the goals he conceded, but did extremely well to come off his line early and clear some dangerous-looking long balls that came towards the Barcelona goal. Made a big save near the end as well.
Eric Garcia: 8.5
Brilliant performance from the Spaniard despite playing as a right-back. Scored a crucial goal to take the game into a frenzied state, and everything went chaotic following that goal. He can be proud of that performance.
Pau Cubarsi: 6.0
Did most of his duties well, but should have done better to grab his man and mark them better. Gave away a penalty, albeit somewhat unfortunately, and also should have done better for Inter’s fourth goal in terms of closing down the space.
Inigo Martinez: 6.5
Similar to Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez could have done better in this game. Struggled in terms of keeping a hold on his man, and it was clear to see that the Spaniard was left frustrated at times during the match while staying on his marker.
Gerard Martin: 9.0
What a performance from the Spaniard. Initially shaky, but as he grew into the game he became a valuable asset. Delivered two sensational assists and also created several other opportunities as well that should have been buried. Sensational European night performance.
Frenkie de Jong: 8.5
Composed and collected, he did not lose his head no matter what happened. Stayed in control, and the longer the game went on the more impactful he became. Great performance from the Dutchman.
Pedri: 8.5
Beautiful performance from the Spaniard, who struggled initially but grew into the game gradually. Controlled the tempo expertly well and the more comfortable he got, the more impactful his positioning became even in tight spaces. Played a beautiful pass to Raphinha that led to the third goal as well.
Lamine Yamal: 8.0
Continued to pose a threat to the opposition throughout the game and even into extra-time. His dribbling was a constant headache for Inter Milan to deal with, and unfortunately he came close to scoring on multiple occasions but could not find the back of the net.
Dani Olmo: 6.5
Managed to grab a goal but was quite frustrating for much of the game. Messed up simple movement at times and even basic touches. Certainly not a game that he will want to remember too fondly.
Raphinha: 7.5
Kept quiet for much of the game, but woke up in the dying minutes of the match. Scored a crucial goal to take this game into extra-time.
Ferran Torres: 5.5
Made some poor decisions when Barcelona had possession, and looked to be out of sync with his teammates. However, his runs were effective in opening up space and that was perhaps his most impactful contribution.
Substitutes:
Ronald Araujo: 6.0
Did what he could defensively and added some much needed physicality at the back as well. However, made some costly errors as well.
Fermin Lopez: 6.0
Energetic and intense, but could not add much value in the final third.
Robert Lewandowski: 6.0
Good hold-up play but missed a big chance to equalize in extra-time.
Hector Fort: 4.0
Haphazard passing, poor decision-making, and just an all-around disappointing cameo.
