Martín Montoya hails Guido Rodríguez as one of LaLiga’s best defensive midfielders | OneFootball

Martín Montoya has hailed Guido Rodríguez, backing Valencia CF’s new signing to fit the team. The pair shared three seasons together at Real Betis.

"I spent three years with him at Real Betis. He surprised me in a very good way. He was one of the pillars of a team that kept qualifying for the UEFA Europa League." He told VCF Media Radio’s Sentiment VCF programme.

"He is very positional, he presses, runs, applies pressure, wins a lot of balls and helps the defence. On the ball he has plenty of technique. At West Ham United FC he has not had the continuity to show the football he has."

"He will be very good for Valencia CF because of his experience, he is a top player. He is one of the best defensive midfielders in LaLiga. As a person he is very calm, without egos, and I am very happy he has signed for a club as big as Valencia CF."

Montoya spent two seasons at Valencia and four with Real Betis, overlapping with Rodríguez in Seville.

Kily González, a Valencia favourite between 1999 and 2003, also praised the arrival, saying Rodríguez could add experience and personality. He spoke of the pleasure of returning to Mestalla, where he was warmly received by supporters and directors.
