International duty cannot be easy for Martin Ødegaard, given the Norway captain has been trying to stay away from images of Erling Haaland celebrating Manchester City’s treblw.

“I’ve tried not to see so much of that stuff, because it still stings. I try not to think too much about it,” the Arsenal midfielder told TV2 in Norway in preparation for games against Scotland and Cyprus.

“Even though we delivered a very good season over a long period of time, I’m left with a sour feeling.”

Ødegaard scored 15 Premier League goals and was named Arsenal Player of the Season as the Gunners finished second having led the league for months.

The midfielder spoke of his pride at receiving votes from the fans for that award but has also denied reports in England that he is talking to Arsenal over a new contract.

“I have not spoken to them, it’s not my job. To be honest, I don’t know how the situation is right now.

“I have a few years left on the contract, I’m fine and I hope to be at the club for a long time to come.”

So … he does want talks?

“It’s not me who controls it. Now I’m focusing on the national team, so it may take until after the summer if they want to do something.”

For now, full focus is clearly on the national team and their bid to qualify for Euro 2024.
