Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard (26) is set for another frustrating spell on the sidelines after suffering a medial collateral ligament injury in his knee during the Gunners’ 2-0 victory over West Ham before the international break, according to reports from Sky Sports.
Manager Mikel Arteta confirmed the setback ahead of Saturday’s clash with Fulham, admitting the midfielder could miss several weeks of action. “He will be weeks, no definite date for his return, but he’s evolving well,” said Arteta. “It’s very unlucky what’s happening with him this season, but I think he’ll be back in a few weeks.”
Ødegaard’s latest issue marks his third injury of the campaign, having already endured two separate shoulder problems that disrupted his rhythm earlier this season.
Despite Ødegaard’s absence, Arteta believes Arsenal’s improved squad depth can help absorb the blow, highlighting the contributions of Eberechi Eze, Ethan Nwaneri, and Mikel Merino. “Martin is a capital player for us,” Arteta added. “But we’re coping because others are performing really well. Still, we need him back; he makes us a better team.”
