Martin O’Neill tipped to get Celtic back on track after bruising week | OneFootball

Charlie Mulgrew has backed Martin O’Neill to steady the ship at Celtic by winning his next four domestic matches.

The Hoops boss has come under increasing scrutiny following a damaging run of results which has raised questions over the direction of his side early in the campaign.

Celtic’s disastrous Champions League collapse against LASK was followed by a brief recovery in form, but O’Neill has since overseen a bruising run of three successive defeats.

Back-to-back Glasgow Derby losses to Rangers, either side of a 3-1 Europa League defeat against Ferencvaros at Celtic Park, have piled the pressure on the 74-year-old.

Despite the growing concern surrounding Celtic, former Hoops defender Mulgrew remains convinced O’Neill can rally his players and put together a strong domestic run.

Speaking on The Breakdown, Mulgrew said: “I’m sure on Martin… I’m convinced he can go and win the next four domestic games. [Europe] makes it a bit harder, but I think so, aye. I think he can.

“I just don’t fancy them in Europe. I don’t fancy them against a powerful team. That’s LASK, and then two against Rangers. A team that’s powerful, can run, that quality [I think] is missing in midfield.

“We’ve spoke about it: Baur’s a decent player, but he’s no Engels. Another midfielder needs to be in there beside Cal. The goalie situation’s an issue.

“Domestically, I think they’ll be fine, but up against Rangers I think they’ll be in trouble. There’s more doubt than there was before.”
