Martinelli nets hat-trick as Arsenal see off Portsmouth | OneFootball

Gabriel Martinelli stole the show as Arsenal came from behind to beat Portsmouth 4-1 at Fratton Park and advance to the FA Cup fourth round.

The Championship side shocked the Premier League leaders almost immediately when Colby Bishop turned in a rebound inside the first three minutes.

The visitors responded quickly, though, as Christian Norgaard’s corner was inadvertently turned in by Portsmouth’s Andre Dozzell, leveling the score just two minutes later.

From that moment, the Gunners took control. Noni Madueke delivered a perfectly timed corner, and Martinelli powered a header past goalkeeper Josef Bursik in the 25th minute to put Arsenal ahead. Madueke then had a chance to increase the lead from the penalty spot, but his effort flew wide.

After the break, Mikel Arteta's sode continued to dominate. A swift counter saw Gabriel Jesus feed Martinelli, who tapped home his second goal. Later, another well-worked corner from Madueke allowed Martinelli to complete his first career FA Cup hat-trick.

The afternoon also marked a historic moment for Arsenal as 16-year-old Marli Salmon became the club’s youngest-ever FA Cup participant at 16 years and 135 days.
