The big crowd in Los Angeles was treated to a healthy mix of first-team stars and burgeoning youngsters from both of the Premier League giants.

One of those stars, Rasmus Højlund, treated the Manchester United faithful to a lovely opener when he beat an Arsenal defender before firing home from an acute angle.

But the Dane’s night came to an end only a few minutes later when he limped off with an apparent muscular injury.

United’s night got worse when Gabriel Jesus reclaimed parity just minutes before Erik ten Hag’s new-boy Leny Yoro also departed with an injury.

While it appeared the friendly clash would fizzle out with the result shared, Gabriel Martinelli came off the bench and took matters into his own hands by cutting through the United defence before firing home the winner in the dying minutes.

As is customary in some friendlies, the two teams squared off in a penalty-shootout regardless of Arsenal’s victory. Manchester United took some consolation with a win in the shootout after misses from Kai Havertz and Jakub Kiwior.
