Arsenal snatched a dramatic late point in a 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser from substitute Gabriel Martinelli.

City looked on course to leave north London with all three points after Erling Haaland calmly slotted home in the ninth minute, finishing a devastating counter-attack orchestrated by Tijjani Reijnders.

The hosts tried to respond quickly, but for much of the first half, the Gunners struggled to create any clear-cut chances.

The tide began to turn after the break. Mikel Arteta introduced Eberechi Eze and Bukayo Saka, returning from a hamstring injury, and Arsenal suddenly played with far more urgency.

Martin Zubimendi came close with a shot over the bar, while Eze tested Gianluigi Donnarumma with a smartly struck effort.

Despite their improved play, City remained dangerous on the counter, with Jeremy Doku proving a persistent threat down the wing. Pep Guardiola, sensing the shift in momentum, reinforced his defence.

But Arsenal’s persistence finally paid off in the 93rd minute. Eze played a perfectly weighted ball over the top, and Martinelli controlled it before delicately lifting a superb lob over the advancing Donnarumma.

The point moves Arsenal up to second in the Premier League, while City leave London frustrated after seeing victory slip away at the death.
