Mason Greenwood is closer than ever to leaving OM, with Fenerbahçe ahead of Atlético de Madrid after fresh talks on Wednesday. According to L'Équipe, all sides want clarity within 24 to 48 hours.
The 24-year-old had not expected to resume training this week, but negotiations have dragged on. This summer he drew strong interest from Roma, Fenerbahçe and Atlético de Madrid, with Al Hilal monitoring.
Roma appealed under Gian Piero Gasperini, but, punished by UEFA in June alongside OM, must sell before buying, so no Italian offer arrived.
Atlético de Madrid have moved closer to Marseille’s valuation with 45 million euros plus five in bonuses. That also needs to cover agent commissions and Greenwood’s agreed cut, linked to wage management in summer 2024.
Fenerbahçe’s proposal is lower, 40 million euros plus add-ons, but there are no agent commissions. Greenwood’s camp has agreed to waive his interest, with a proposed four-year contract already described as colossal.
OM, seeking their first sale of the summer, have not accepted any bid and are urging Fenerbahçe towards a package closer to 50 million euros. Atlético de Madrid remain in the frame.
Any sale would also require settlements with Manchester United, who retain 40% of the player’s rights, and compensation for Getafe, the only club to have backed him in 2023-24.
In June, OM discussed rescheduling instalments over coming seasons with INEOS. There have also been attempts to trim United’s share to 35 or 30% of the total deal, with no certainty of success.
