Mason Greenwood is close to a surprise move from Marseille to Fenerbahce, with talks at an advanced stage. His stint in Ligue 1 looks set to end as a switch to Istanbul gathers pace.
RMC Sport reports that discussions have progressed since the end of the 2024-25 season. Atletico Madrid tried to lure the former Manchester United forward, but the financial package in Türkiye has ultimately swayed his decision, and he is poised to sign a four-year contract worth a net €10m per season.
When he joined Marseille in 2024, a sell-on clause for Manchester United was included. Fenerbahce have held separate talks with Marseille and United to settle each club's share, unlike Atletico Madrid's approach.
The deal is valued at €42m including add-ons, covering United's sell-on percentage. Marseille are set to receive around €30m once the move is finalised.
Marseille view his exit as a financial necessity, with the removal of his wages easing pressure on the payroll. Frustration over his day-to-day attitude and commitment also pushed the club towards a sale.
The operation has been driven by new sporting director Gregory Lorenzi as part of a wider first-team rebuild.
Greenwood scored 26 goals and supplied 11 assists in 45 appearances in 2025-26, helping Marseille finish fifth and reach the Europa League. Fenerbahce ended as runners-up to Galatasaray and enter the Champions League second qualifying round.
