Manchester United forwards drew blank in their side’s humiliating defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

Ruben Amorim’s approach meant United started the game on the back foot, and could never truly make their presence felt at the Etihad. As such, the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Amad Diallo got limited opportunities to test Gianluigi Donnarumma.

While United forwards continue to struggle under Amorim, former Red Devils, or those who are away on loan, are enjoying a purple patch in front of goal. Rasmus Hojlund marked his debut for Napoli with a goal, and Marcus Rashford bagged a brilliant assist in Barcelona’s 6-0 win over Valencia.

Mason Greenwood shines in Marseille win

Mason Greenwood was another ex-United to get on the scoresheet over the matchweek, and his performance caught the eye of Real Madrid.

Los Blancos are set to face Olympique de Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday. As such, their scouts monitored the Ligue 1 giants against Lorient.

Marseille thrashed Lorient 4-0, and Greenwood ended the night with a goal and an assist.

Mason Greenwood stuns Real Madrid

According to Defensa Central, the Englishman’s performance was “a serious warning to Madrid’s scouts.”

“He’s very good, we’ll have to control him in open spaces,” said the part of the scouts’ report that Xabi Alonso already has in his possession.

Real are well aware of the 23-year-old’s skill sets, having followed him during his time at Getafe.

The club is aware that the United academy product is “a powerful striker who can make a difference from any angle on the pitch.”

Greenwood finished as Ligue 1’s joint-top scorer alongside Paris Saint-Germain talisman Ousmane Dembele on 21 goals in his maiden season in the south of France.

United sold Greenwood in a deal worth £26.6m last summer, and included a sizeable sell-on clause in their favour. As such, his rise in France should also continue to attract the Old Trafford hierarchy’s attention.
