An update has been issued on Mason Mount’s England prospects, even as he continues to deliver for Manchester United this season.
Mount endured two injury-stricken seasons at United since joining the club from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
Fitness concerns have plagued him during his Old Trafford stint, preventing him from nailing down a consistent run of performances and appearances.
However, things appear to be more positive for Mount this term. He has made 12 Premier League appearances, notching three goals in that period. His goals have been crucial for United.
He scored the winner in last month’s 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace. More recently, he netted to give the Red Devils a deserved two-goal cushion in their 4-1 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux. Both finishes were exquisite.
Against Wolves in particular, Mount was a constant threat and struck a lethal partnership with Bruno Fernandes, who supplied his goal.
Asked about whether he has an eye on returning to the England squad, Mount remained coy, simply saying he would continue to work hard and bide his time.
Now, the Daily Mail have given the latest on his chances of breaking into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
According to the newspaper, “Confidential understands from conversations around the England camp and also at United that there is a feeling it is highly unlikely Tuchel will look in Mount’s direction between now and the tournament starting next summer, no matter how impressive his form.”
“Tuchel and Mount worked together at Chelsea and were successful in that partnership.”
“But the German is said to have reservations about how much Mount could actually impact an England group that plays a totally different style to United’s under Amorim.”
With sustained impressive performances, it will be nearly impossible for Tuchel to ignore Mount, irrespective of the formation he plays in at United.
