Real Madrid are not rushing into Alaba’s fitness and his return to the pitch will be gradual, spread over several weeks.

The club are aware of the fact that they cannot afford Alaba to aggravate his injury. The medical team, therefore, is set to adopt a more cautious approach.

This comes against the backdrop of recent reports suggesting that the former Bayern Munich defender could return to the pitch sometime after the Spanish Super Cup.

Alaba’s return could be a boon for Carlo Ancelotti, who has been forced to deploy Aurelien Tchouameni in central defence, thanks to the absence of Eder Militao through injury.

Apart from the quality that he offers on the pitch, Alaba’s leadership and experience could prove to be invaluable for Real Madrid, at a time when the club require some guidance.

Therefore, it will be interesting to see how the veteran defender goes about his fitness in the coming weeks.
