Overlooked at Real Madrid last eason, Franco Mastantuono was handed the chance to get more minutes in European football in Florence, and he is making the most of it. At the weekend, the Argentine surpassed a feat set by Lionel Messi and also reached a historic milestone in Serie A for Fiorentina.

Mastantuono was one of the standout performers in round for of the Serie A, scoring a hat-trick in Fiorentina’s 4-2 win over Venezia. The achievement was already notable as it was the first match in which the midfielder had scored more than once in his career, but there was more to come.

On loan from Madrid to I Viola, Mastantuono (19 years and 28 days old) became the youngest Argentine to score a hat-trick in Europe’s five major leagues, overtaking none other than Messi, who scored his first treble for Barça at 19 years and 8 months in El Clásico against Real Madrid.

In addition to surpassing Messi, Mastantuono also surpassed his compatriot Mauro Icardi, who scored three goals for Sampdoria against Pescara in 2013 at 19 years and 11 months old, becoming the youngest foreigner to score three goals in Serie A history.

To finish piling up records, the midfielder also broke a mark that had lasted for over 90 years: surpassing Vinicio Viani, who scored his first hat-trick for Fiorentina against Palermo in 1933 at 20 years and 1 month old, Mastantuono is the youngest player to score three goals in the club's history in Serie A.
