Pellegrino Matarazzo faced the media five days after Real Sociedad’s first defeat of the season against Betis at La Cartuja, previewing the rearranged LaLiga matchday one trip to Real Madrid. According to Diario Vasco, he ran through fitness updates and assessed what he called a demanding assignment. La Real have often made life difficult for the Bernabéu side.
He said Gonçalo Guedes is fit to travel, though his minutes remain uncertain. Ander Barrenetxea has shaken off minor issues, trained in Zubieta with a bandaged calf and, feeling good, should be ready to play on Wednesday. Matarazzo offered no hint on whether Mikel Oyarzabal can manage 60 minutes.
The coach declined to discuss Mamadou Sarr, the Senegal centre-back whom Real Sociedad have lined up as their first signing of the season.
Matarazzo spoke of competing with a clear plan, stressing the need to stay connected collectively and to show the level that previously made the team successful. With limited recovery time, he said rotation is very possible and the starting XI will be picked from those fully fit.
One player remains a doubt for tomorrow, so an extra traveller will be included with the option of a late omission. He added that the squad feels prepared for the Bernabéu. The fixture was postponed due to World Cup involvement of players from both clubs in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
