The Premier League have confirmed that Peter Bankes will oversee proceedings between Manchester City and Leeds United at the Etihad Stadium this weekend.
Pep Guardiola will be eager to cut short a losing run as soon as possible having seen his side collapse to successive defeats at the hands of Newcastle in the Premier League on Saturday evening and then Bayer Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.
The latter of those two results came off the back of a staggeringly different line-up fielded by Guardiola, who had previously described the affair as a “real final”, before making 10 changes to the side that lost at St James’ Park.
Goals either side of half-time from Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrik Schick saw Leverkusen come away from the Etihad Stadium with all three points, and leaving Guardiola’s men with all to do in their remaining three European matches to secure an automatic place in the last-16.
Before attentions can turn back to European duties, there is plenty to do in the Premier League with seven points now separating City and Arsenal at the top of the division, with a number of favourable fixtures on the horizon.
Ahead of the first of those meetings now coming between Manchester City and Leeds United, the Premier League have announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!
The Premier League have this week confirmed that Peter Bankes has been appointed into the role of on-field match referee for the clash between Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Daniel Farke’s Leeds United.
The Merseyside official has overseen nine matches so far this season, all of which have come in the English top-flight, issuing a total of 38 yellow cards, one second yellow card dismissal, one straight red card, and awarding three penalties in the process.
Bankes has already overseen one Manchester City clash this season, having been the referee for Guardiola’s side’s 0-2 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in late August – a contest that saw five yellow cards issued.
City have a hugely mixed record in games overseen by Bankes, winning four, drawing one, and losing five of the 10 matches in total that the experienced official has overseen, with those matches featuring 11 yellow cards and one straight red card.
Accompanying Peter Bankes on the field at the Etihad Stadium this weekend will be an assistant referee pairing of Edward Smart and Blake Antrobus, the Premier League have confirmed.
Overseeing Manchester City against Leeds United from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park this weekend will be Video Assistant Referee Robert Jones, and Assistant Video Assistant Referee Adrian Holmes, the Premier League have announced.
Standing between the two Etihad Stadium dugouts this weekend and managing proceedings involving Pep Guardiola and Daniel Farke’s respective benches will be the appointed fourth official, Gavin Ward.
