On Sunday afternoon, Bayern traveled to VfL Bochum, as they looked to bounce back from the mid-week disappointment in the UEFA Champions League.
Vincent Kompany tasked the following XI with doing just that; Neuer - Laimer, Upamecano, Kim, Davies - Palhinha, Kimmich - Olise, Musiala, Coman - Kane.
After eight minutes, the hosts went ever so close, but Kim managed to clear the rolling ball a yard or two before it reached the goal line, and Bayern were off the hook.
They would make Bochum pay not long after. With 16 minutes on the clock, Olise showed his class by scoring a superb free-kick to give Bayern the lead, from 20 yards out. A fantastic goal from a fantastic player.
After 26 minutes, it was 2-0. A free-kick was crossed in by Kimmich from the right hand side, and Musiala’s deft header with the back of his head glanced the ball into the back of the net. He doesn’t get many with his head — a nice collectors item.
With five minutes of the first period remaining, Musiala nearly had his second goal of the game, but his left footed effort went just wide of the Bochum goal. Nevertheless, Bayern went into the break with a 2-0 lead.
Soon after the break, it was three goals and three points for Bayern. Superb footwork from Musiala took a Bochum player out from the game, before carrying the ball forward and having the composure to pick out Kane — who fired a left-footed shot into the roof of the middle of the net to make it 3-0.
Just after the hour mark, Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller and Leon Goretzka replaced Olise, Musiala and, Palhinha. Sané would waste no time at all, as four minutes later, he scored his first Bundesliga goal in 365 days, curling a beautiful effort in from the edge of the penalty area.
There were just over 20 minutes on the clock when Mathys Tel was introduced for Kane. Just two minutes later, Coman made it five - with a lovely curling effort after cutting inside from the left hand side.
A few minutes Eric Dier replaced Kim - as Kompany had the luxury of giving his stars some rest. If being harsh, this particular sub could have happened earlier, given Kim's workload for club and country, but that is just being a little nit picky.
Bayern created a few chances late on, though the game remained 5-0, in a fantastic away win. Five wins, five goalscorers. Whilst Bochum are clearly a poor side - Bayern had lost there on two of their previous three visits, including a 3-2 defeat back in February. Much, much better today.
