Valencia CF’s LaLiga Matchday 4 game against FC Barcelona at Mestalla ended in a loss, as Carlos Corberán’s men fell to a 0-5 result.

Two minutes into the match, Filip Ugrinic intercepted a horizontal pass from FC Barcelona in midfield, quickly passed to David Otorbi, and the Valencia CF winger picked out Arnaut Danjuma's run in behind the defence. However, opposition goalkeeper Joan García reacted quickly, coming out to clear the ball with his feet.

Nevertheless, it was FC Barcelona who took the lead with a goal from Lamine Yamal, who flicked the ball into the net after a ball over the top of the Valencia CF defence.

Two minutes later, a second goal for Lamine Yamal was disallowed for offside after a VAR review.

The reaction was several attacks on Joan García's goal, but they couldn't find the equaliser. In another blow, Fermín scored FC Barcelona’s second goal with a shot inside the far post, past Dimitrievski.

The Valencia CF goalkeeper prevented the score from moving to 3-0 with a brilliant save from a Lamine Yamal shot.

After thirty minutes, Valencia CF had a clear chance through Danjuma, but Joan García ended up making the save. Five minutes later, Lamine Yamal came close to scoring his second, and Fermín also had an opportunity, with Dimitrievski keeping the effort out with his foot.

In stoppage time, Valencia CF could have reduced the deficit when Danjuma broke into the FC Barcelona penalty area, but his low shot was stopped by Joan García. In the ensuing move, Dimitrievski had to intervene again with a save of his own.

second half

After the restart, FC Barcelona put Valencia CF on the defensive. A run from Lamine Yamal ended in him laying the ball off to Anthony Gordon, who struck wide.

Valencia CF went 0-3 down when Lamine Yamal released Fermín on the counter, and his cross in was met by Raphinha.

A clearance was required off another run inside and shot by Raphinha. Looking for something new, Corberán made a triple substitution, replacing Pepelu, Maffeo and Vázquez with Tárrega, Gayà and the debuting Harvey Elliot.

More changes followed just after the hour, with the introduction of Cordoba and Sato in place of Diakhaby and Javi Guerra.

Looking for a replica of their third goal, FC Barcelona attacked through Lamine Yamal and Fermin in a chance on 66 minutes, but Raphinha did not reach the ball across.

Valencia CF tried constant attacks with Otorbi’s pace down the right, albeit without success in the final third. After a tremendous effort for 75 minutes, he was withdrawn for the final quarter hour, replaced by out-and-out striker Hugo Duro.

Before the end, FC Barcelona made it 0-4 through Pedri, playing a one-two with Dani Olmo and finishing off the chance. They then increased the advantage further through Lamine Yamal’s second of the afternoon, taking the final score to 0-5.

Next up for Valencia CF is an away trip against Sevilla FC on September 11th, at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
