The schedule for the sixth to twelfth rounds of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season has been released, and with it come very crucial matches, including Bayern - Dortmund, Bayern - Leverkusen, Freiburg - Frankfurt, Leipzig - Stuttgart, Leverkusen - Dortmund, and so many more. Here is what you need to know about each matchweek; the full schedule is also below. All times are CET (UTC+1).
The 15:30 timeslot on Saturday features two notable matches. The first is between two northern sides, as SV Werder Bremen face FC St. Pauli at the Weserstadion. Bremen and St. Pauli have managed to draw three of their last four meetings, dating back to the 2021/22 season when Werder promoted from 2. Bundesliga. The exception was this past December, when Derrick Köhn and Marvin Ducksch scored a half-hour apart to lead Werder to a 2-0 victory at Millerntor.
The other is a battle between European competition contenders, as Borussia Dortmund host RB Leipzig at Signal Iduna Park. Leipzig have won four of the last five competitive matches between the two sides, but are also 1-0-2 in their last three matches in Dortmund dating back to March 2023.
Dortmund and Leipzig are not the only two European competition contenders to be facing each other that Saturday, as Eintracht Frankfurt will host FC Bayern München at Deutsche Bank Park in the primetime match. Bayern finished with the Meisterschale last season, while Frankfurt finished third; both teams are 2-0-0 in their current campaigns, two of only three teams to have picked up six points from six (1. FC Köln is the third).
The highlight of the sixth week is Der Klassiker itself, FC Bayern München against Borussia Dortmund at the Allianz Arena; that will be the primetime match on Saturday, 18 October, starting at 18:30. BVB have gone unbeaten in their last two encounters in München, winning 2-0 in March 2024 and finishing with a 2-2 draw in April of this year.
Two teams showing promise in the early part of the season will also be facing each other, as 1. FC Köln and FC Augsburg go head-to-head at RheinEnergie Stadion. Lukas Kwasniok's side are 1-1-0, undefeated in their first two meetings and having only conceded once against Mainz/Freiburg, while former national team assistant coach Sandro Wagner's Augsburg are 1-0-1, having defeated Freiburg and fought to a one-goal result against Bayern.
SC Freiburg faces Eintracht Frankfurt at Europa-Park Stadion on Sunday afternoon, with kickoff set for 15:30. This is a rematch of the 3-1 victory for the visitors on the final day of the 2024/25 season; in Bundesliga competition, Frankfurt are unbeaten against Freiburg in their last six matches, with the most recent defeat having been a 1-2 result in April 2022.
FC St. Pauli and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, two teams that finished close to the relegation zone and with the same number of points last season, will face each other in the primetime match at 17:30. The two sides will be playing each other twice in the second half of October; the other match is the second round of the 2025/26 DFB-Pokal competition, which will be held in Sinsheim at PreZero Arena on 28 October at 20:45.
Bayern move to the Saturday afternoon timeslot in the eighth matchweek of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season, as the Friday night match will feature SV Werder Bremen and 1. FC Union Berlin, and the Saturday primetime match will be Borussia Dortmund against 1. FC Köln.
Die Roten will face Borussia Mönchengladbach at Borussia-Park, having won all of their last four meetings against Die Fohlen (2-1, 3-1, 1-0, 2-0). Interestingly enough, this was after Gladbach managed to go unbeaten in six matches against Bayern in all competitions (3-3-0) between 2021 and 2023, including a 5-0 result in the DFB-Pokal.
As mentioned above, Dortmund - Köln will be the primetime match; BVB have won all of the last three meetings between the two sides, two of which were completely one-sided scorelines (6-1, 1-0, 4-0). Donyell Malen scored in all three of those matches, but has since moved to Aston Villa FC and is playing his club football in England.
Sunday has two must-watch matches; the early match will be in Nordrhein-Westfalen, as Bayer 04 Leverkusen will face SC Freiburg at 15:30. Both teams qualified for European places last season but are without a win in their current campaign, and Leverkusen have even gone to the extent of firing Erik Ten Hag after just two matches in charge.
The late match features VfB Stuttgart and 1. FSV Mainz 05, two teams that will also be playing European football this season; Mainz were victorious in the most recent meeting in January, with Nelson Weiper and Anthony Caci the goalscorers, but that was their first win in ten matches against Die Schwaben. Kickoff at Mercedes-Benz Arena is set for 17:30.
FC Augsburg will face Borussia Dortmund in the Friday evening matchup, set to start at 20:30 at WWK Arena. This will be the first match against Dortmund in Sandro Wagner's coaching career; Jess Thorup's Augsburg managed to win both matches against BVB last season (2-1 at home, 1-0 away), ending a prior seven-match winless streak that included a 1-5 defeat near the end of the 2023/24 season.
Of the 15:30 matches on Saturday, RB Leipzig - VfB Stuttgart is the most notable. It will be the fourth time in all competitions this year, with Stuttgart having won all three prior matches (2-1, 3-1, 3-2); this included eliminating Leipzig in the semifinal of the DFB-Pokal, a tournament that Stuttgart would go on to win in late May.
FC Bayern München will host Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the primetime match at 18:30, a battle between the two most recent Bundesliga champions. Leverkusen have just four players returning from the squad that defeated Bayern 3-0 in the 2023/24 season, these being Robert Andrich, Alejandro Grimaldo, Edmond Tapsoba, and Nathan Tella. Josip Stanišić and Jonathan Tah, who also started for Leverkusen in that match, have since moved to Bayern - the latter will face his former team for the first time since a free transfer back in May.
1. FC Köln host Hamburger SV in the early Sunday match, with kickoff at 15:30; this will be followed by VfL Wolfsburg against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at the Volkswagen Arena, starting at 17:30.
SV Werder Bremen will host VfL Wolfsburg in the Friday primetime match; kickoff at the Weserstadion is set for 20:30. Wolfsburg, under different coaches, are 5-2-3 in their last ten matches against Werder, and 2-1-1 in the last two years. Mitchell Weiser will be a key player to watch, as he scored in both Werder’s 4-2 away victory and 1-2 home defeat during the 2024/25 season.
Among the 15:30 matches on Saturday, which include Leverkusen - Heidenheim, Union Berlin - Bayern, and Hoffenheim - Leipzig, Hamburger SV face Borussia Dortmund at Volksparkstadion. Dortmund have won all of the last five meetings between the two, without conceding in four of them, but the last time these two teams met was in February 2018 - three months before HSV’s historic relegation to 2. Bundesliga. Mario Götze and Michy Batshuayi were the goalscorers for Dortmund in that match; seven and a half years later, both are contracted to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Rheinisches Derby is the primetime match on Saturday at 18:30, as Borussia Mönchengladbach battle 1. FC Köln at Borussia-Park. Despite relegation to the second tier of German football, a situation that Gladbach have not been through in the last decade, Köln has managed to get the better of Gladbach in the derby in recent years, 4-2-1 in their last seven. In the 2023/24 season, Köln defeated Gladbach 3-1 at the RheinEnergie Stadion, and the reverse fixture at Borussia-Park ended in a 3-3 draw.
Sunday features Freiburg - St. Pauli and Stuttgart - Augsburg, but the primetime match at 17:30 is the highlight, as Eintracht Frankfurt plays 1. FSV Mainz 05 at Deutsche Bank Park. Both sides have qualified for European competition, with a 1-2-1 head-to-head record since the start of the 2023/24 season. Mainz defeated Frankfurt 3-1 in last season’s match in Frankfurt, and the other result was a 1-1 draw; Jonathan Burkardt scored for Mainz in the latter match, but has since moved to Frankfurt and will be facing his former team for the first time.
Following the November international window, 1. FSV Mainz 05 and TSG 1899 Hoffenheim play the Friday matchup. The two teams managed to split their head-to-head record last season, with both results ending 2-0 to the hosts.
The 15:30 timeslot has been filled with exciting matchups, as Borussia Dortmund host VfB Stuttgart, FC Bayern München face SC Freiburg, VfL Wolfsburg go up against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC Augsburg host Hamburger SV, and 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 face Borussia Mönchengladbach.
Dortmund - Stuttgart is the key match to keep an eye on in that list, because not only are both teams in European competition this season and will likely be competing for a European place, but VfB are also undefeated in their last five meetings with BVB in all competitions, conceding only three goals. The last time that Dortmund walked out with a win was a 5-0 result in October 2022, when the hosts landed 10 shots on target.
Wolfsburg - Leverkusen is expected to be a highly competitive match, given recent results between the two sides and where they may be able to finish in the table, as well as where they currently are in this new campaign, with Wolfsburg at 1-1-0 and Leverkusen at 0-1-1. Leverkusen won their 2024/25 home match in a seven-goal thriller, ultimately taking the three points on a Victor Boniface stoppage time decider; the reverse fixture at the Volkswagen Arena ended in a high-intensity, yet scoreless, affair.
1. FC Köln will host Eintracht Frankfurt in a battle between two currently unbeaten sides for the 18:30 Saturday matchup. The last time that these two teams faced each other, it was Köln that emerged the victors by a 2-0 result, with Frankfurt having been reduced down to nine men after two red cards.
RB Leipzig face Werder Bremen at the Red Bull Arena in the early Sunday match at 15:30, and two hours later, FC St. Pauli host 1. FC Union Berlin at Millerntor. Union Berlin finished one spot ahead of St. Pauli in the final Bundesliga table for the 2024/25 season, but the two were separated by eight points; they split their season head-to-head, with St. Pauli winning 1-0 at Millerntor and Union winning 3-0 at the Alte Försterei.
Borussia Mönchengladbach will host RB Leipzig in the Friday evening match. The two teams were split by just six points in the Bundesliga table last season, and both missed out on European competition; only one goal was scored in their two meetings during the 2024/25 season, and this was courtesy of Alassane Pléa, who has since moved to PSV in the Netherlands.
Among the Saturday afternoon matches, 1. FC Köln will face SV Werder Bremen; Bremen won both of the head-to-head matches between the two sides when they faced each other in the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, and are undefeated in three against Köln. The last time that Köln defeated Bremen was a 7-1 thrashing in January 2023. Union Berlin host Heidenheim, Bayern face St. Pauli, and Hoffenheim host Augsburg in the other 15:30 matchups.
The primetime match is between Bayer 04 Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund, two Champions League sides who split their head-to-head season series in high-scoring encounters; Leverkusen defeated Dortmund 3-2 at Signal Iduna Park in January, and Dortmund followed with a 4-2 result at the BayArena in May. Serhou Guirassy was the only player to have scored in both matches.
Hamburger SV face VfB Stuttgart in the early Sunday matchup, at 15:30; this will be followed by Eintracht Frankfurt against VfL Wolfsburg at Deutsche Bank Park two hours later. The primetime match at 19:30 will be between SC Freiburg and 1. FSV Mainz 05; four out of the last five matches, and six of the last ten between these two teams ended in draws.
