With Manchester City behind to Fulham and staring at the prospect of three Premier League games without a win, Mateo Kovačić picked a perfect time to pop up with two goals in one game for the first time in his career in England.
His brace also means he has equalled his best goals tally of any season since 2014/15.
Former Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira had given the Cottagers the lead on his return to the city, but Kovačić quickly stepped up with an equaliser to leave the game level at half time.
Just two minutes into the second half, he got his, and City’s second, with a brilliant finish from just outside the box.
It was his third of the season, following an opening day strike against former club, Chelsea, and brought plenty of interesting stats to the table.
The 30-year-old Croatian had been identified as a Rodri replacement, but today he is looking more like an alternative to Erling Haaland if anything!
