Girona have confirmed the signing of Mateu Morey to replace Arnau Martínez following his move to Valencia. The 26-year-old right-back arrives from Mallorca and has signed until June 2028, the club said on Monday.

Morey will compete for the position with Javi Boñar, recently recruited from Atlético Madrid.

Arnau ended his spell at Montilivi to join Valencia on a five-year contract running to June 2031. He had been a key figure since debuting in 2020 and departed after reaching 200 official appearances across La Liga, Segunda, Copa del Rey and the Champions League.

The agreement between Girona and Valencia for Arnau was set at 5 million euros fixed, plus 1 million in add-ons, with a 10% sell-on clause.

Morey spent the past two seasons with Mallorca, playing 38 times. The transfer is around 150,000 euros fixed with performance-related variables, and Mallorca retain a percentage of any future sale.

A Mallorca academy product, he later came through Barcelona’s youth ranks, winning the 2017/18 UEFA Youth League. He was part of Spain’s victorious under-17s in 2017 before joining Borussia Dortmund in 2019, featuring in the Bundesliga and the Champions League.
