They beat Manchester United to Fernandes, and he is set to become manager Roberto De Zerbi’s fifth summer addition.

Tottenham have already completed deals for Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson, Jan Paul van Hecke and Martin Dubravka.

The West Ham star is next and an announcement could be made in the coming hours.

More deals are expected, with Spurs keen on also signing Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali.

Fernandes has huge potential and could develop into the best player in his position under De Zerbi.

He has suffered back-to-back Premier League relegations with Southampton and West Ham, but his quality cannot be denied.

Fernandes will now look to help Tottenham return to Europe at the end of next season.

He missed out on Portugal’s final World Cup squad despite impressing with West Ham last term, having weighed in with five goals and four assists across all competitions.

Attacking additions are also on the cards at Spurs and De Zerbi will hope the club can sign more of his desired transfer targets.
