Corinthians completed their preparations on Saturday for Sunday’s clássico against Santos, 16:00, in the 25th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, with right-back Matheuzinho stressing the value of a full training week and the chance to reset their league form.

"It was a very good week, although unfortunately in the last game we did not get a good result. But we know how important this clássico is for us, for our run and for the season as well," he told Corinthians TV.

Corinthians are chasing a first league win since 9 August, when they beat Red Bull Bragantino 2-0. Since then they have lost twice, to Cruzeiro 2-1 and Coritiba 2-1.

That run has left the Alvinegro 10th on 32 points, while Santos are 14th with 26. Victory could lift the Parque São Jorge club up to two places, above Atlético-MG and Coritiba, depending on other results.

"We know these three points are very important for the Brasileiro as well. We are well prepared. It will be a great game and I hope Fiel, as always, turn up at the Arena to support us so that we can get the win."

Corinthians are also seeking a first win over Santos this season after 1-1 draws in January in the Campeonato Paulista and in March in the league, both at Vila Belmiro.
