Sankt Pauli midfielder Mathias Pereira Lage sustained a serious knee injury in training, the club said in a statement, confirming a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. The 29-year-old will be sidelined for several months.
The incident occurred on Wednesday during a session as Sankt Pauli prepared for Saturday's Bundesliga trip to Heidenheim at 15:30, for the 31st round.

Pereira Lage, a Franco-Portuguese attacking midfielder or forward, played for Stade Brestois last season.
It is a major setback for the Hamburg side, who are fighting to avoid relegation and sit 16th in the 18-team league.
He had been an undisputed starter, contributing three goals and two assists across 28 appearances.
