Mathieu Patouillet has joined Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois on a three-year deal, returning to France after a year with Al-Hilal. The OL academy product lifted the Coupe Gambardella in 2022.

According to Le Progres, the 22-year-old becomes Brest's fourth goalkeeping signing of the summer, following Noé Poillion, Egil Selvik and Romain Cagnon.

Patouillet struggled for minutes in Saudi Arabia, sitting behind Al-Hilal's undisputed number one, Yassine Bounou, the Morocco goalkeeper. He made only two Saudi League appearances last season.

He terminated his contract with Al-Hilal a year early and was available as a free agent.

Patouillet hopes to challenge current starter Egil Selvik for the gloves at Brest. The move offers him a platform to relaunch his career.
