Manchester City and Monaco are close to a deal for Troyes winger Mathys Detourbet, 19, who would sign for City then join Monaco on loan. Nice-Matin understands that only minor details remain.

The proposed arrangement is a season-long loan without a fee, with an option to extend for a second year. Monaco would hold a purchase option at the end of that second season, and be compensated if City recall him early.

Detourbet helped ESTAC win Ligue 2 this season and seal promotion, finishing with 3 goals and 5 assists in 33 matches.

With both clubs in the City Group, City had pushed for months to bring him in from their satellite side. They are said to have paid €25 million to secure the transfer.

The France U20 international prioritised Monaco, which made contact in September, and he accepted a City move only on condition of a loan to Monaco. He wants to leave his Saint-Germain, near Troyes, comfort zone and take a step up.

Comfortable as a winger or playmaker, he prefers operating as a number 10 and is less suited to a wing-back role.

His choice was not influenced by the future of Sébastien Pocognoli, which will be discussed after Monaco learn on Sunday 17 May if they are in Europe following their Ligue 1 finale at Strasbourg at 21:00.

Detourbet plans to maintain his fitness on the Côte d’Azur this summer.
