Matías Moreno has returned to full training after missing the Real Madrid and Elche games with what Luís Castro termed “fatigue”. According to Superdeporte, the Argentine is focused on Saturday’s game against Atlético de Madrid as Levante chase survival.
On loan from Fiorentina with a 13 million euros option to buy, the 22-year-old has become one of Levante’s most reliable defenders. Friday’s three points, earned against a direct rival, also ended their wait for a home win this season.
Fiorentina have received enquiries about cutting short his loan, including an offer from a LaLiga club and strong interest from the City Group, led by Manchester City and including teams such as New York City and Girona. The agreement sets no fee for Fiorentina to cancel the loan, but there is a two million euros penalty if Levante notify that they will trigger the 13 million euros option then reverse that decision within 48 hours for him to return to the Artemio Franchi.
Despite the attention, Moreno is ignoring proposals and concentrating on delivering at the Ciutat de València. The club is backing him while shutting out rumours around his future.
A Belgrano academy graduate from Córdoba, he is enjoying the prominence that eluded him in his first year in Europe. Levante and Moreno are aligned in pursuit of top-flight safety this season.
