According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Mats Hummels’ potential move to AS Roma has now fallen through.

Since leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, there have been a number of top European clubs looking to sign the 2014 World Cup winner as a free agent.

RCD Mallorca, Real Sociedad, Bologna, and Brighton & Hove Albion are all just a number of clubs who have attempted to secure the 35-year-old’s signature, whether it be by offering Hummels a contract or by conducting discussions with the former German international.

Nevertheless, the experienced defender has still yet to find a club, and while a move to the Eternal City had appeared ilkley, that move has also now broken down.

It is understood that the 35-year-old was set to be offered a one-year contract by the Giallorossi, worth €2.5 million, but after further talks, the Serie A outfit have elected against signing Hummels.

Where the former Dortmund defender could now go is unknown, having had the majority of Europe at his fingertips.

However, what is certain is that Hummels has frustrated many clubs this summer, and finding a new home could now be difficult.
