Matt Gill has committed his future to West Bromwich Albion as James Morrison reshapes his backroom staff. His permanent title is assistant head coach.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, Gill arrived shortly after Morrison’s caretaker appointment and was credited as a key part of last season’s push for Championship survival.

Though he has often worked alongside Russell Martin, who became Leicester boss earlier this month, Gill has chosen to stay at The Hawthorns under Morrison.

Morrison has also added former Middlesbrough team-mate Tony McMahon and Gavin Strachan to his staff. Strachan, son of former Scotland manager Gordon, has been on Celtic’s coaching team since 2020 and was previously No.2 at Doncaster and Peterborough.

Spanish coach Damia Abella, who joined during Carlos Corberan’s spell, has left after three seasons.

Leigh Downing returns to his under-21s role after stepping up with the first team for the season run-in, while Boaz Myhill remains goalkeeper coach.
