The Old Gold have announced the acquisition of England international Kieran Trippier following his release from Newcastle United and then secured the return of Raul Jimenez after he left Fulham.

Rob Edwards is said to have been instrumental in those signings as well as Andre's decision to put pen to paper on a fresh contract at Molineux.

However, following the shocking news that Edwards has been sacked by Wolves and the manner in which it happened, former favourite Matt Jarvis has responded to what has unravelled.

Yesterday afternoon, news emerged that Wolves were eyeing Gil Vicente head coach César Peixoto to replace Edwards, which seemed odd given how secure the Englishman's job appeared.

Then, Fabrizio Romano revealed overnight that the Old Gold had confirmed Peixoto's appointment, but Edwards' sacking was not confirmed until the morning.

Details emerged that the 43-year-old only discovered his fate when his family saw the rumours on social media, with the head coach calling the club to find out if they were true.

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has already reacted to the news, and now Jarvis has had his say while speaking on talkSPORT.

"It's ridiculous really and definitely out of the blue," he told talkSPORT.

"I think if you speak to anyone that's either been at the club or you've been watching, you can see what he's done to that club.

"I spoke about it when he first went there. His man-management skills, the togetherness that he's got with that group of players and what I find incredible is that they've had this plan; they knew for a long time the situation that they were going to get relegated.

"He's built this team, he's then played a really good style, they play some really good games. Yes, results probably weren't as they should be, but then, towards the end, he's then whittled it down, and he's looked at players that he's probably thought, 'Yep, they'll do for me next year, these won't'.

"They've had all of this time to plan because they knew the situation, and then the players that they've already signed, Andre, who signed a new deal, he talks about Rob Edwards being an integral part of that, and then they release the interview with Kieran Trippier yesterday about how instrumental Rob was when he had other clubs that were interested.

"You then have this bombshell that happens the next day when Rob's been sacked. It's absolutely incredible."

Will Wolves regret sacking Edwards?

Clearly, the Black Country club feel like they are getting an upgrade in Peixoto; otherwise, they would not have sacked Edwards.

The fact that the former Middlesbrough boss played a pivotal role in bringing key names to the clubs makes you wonder what those players are currently thinking.

Of course, they are professionals, and they will get on with their job, but it does not exactly paint a picture of stability from the outside looking in.

Peixoto did an admirable job to guide Gil Vicente to a sixth-placed finish in the Portuguese top flight on a modest budget and may well go on to be a top head coach.

However, under Edwards, the club had a reputable Championship boss with a track record of delivering results, while he obviously knew the club inside out.

Given the calibre of players who have already signed ahead of the new campaign, they will still be among the favourites for promotion, but if you are content with disposing of a former player like that, then supporters will want answers.

Edwards should have no problem finding another job, but it is going to take some time for everyone associated with the club to come to terms with this bombshell.
