Matt O’Riley is open to offers, Tony Bloom owes Celtic an apology | OneFootball

Former Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley has revealed that he is “very open” to offers from anywhere after enduring a tough season…

Matt was of course a huge hit in a Celtic jersey after moving from MK Dons for a bargain £1.5 million in January 2022, scoring numerous vital goals and provided plenty of assists both domestically and in Europe, before earning a move to Brighton in a £25 million transfer back in 2024.

His time at the Amex unfortunately hasn’t been as successful as he hoped, not helped by suffering a nasty injury not long after signing for the Seagulls.

The former Celtic star has also experienced a loan spell at French giants Marseille, which was cut short in February when he was called back to England’s south coast, and seemingly his future with the Seagulls is now uncertain.

Discussing his future with The Argus he said: “I’m very open to trying all sorts, you know? I also like sunshine! Vitamin D is a good friend of mine so whenever I can get closer to that.

“It’s also just a different culture, different experiences, learning a new language, all that stuff, I think just helps you build yourself as a person.”

He was also asked if the “intensity” of playing for Marseille was similar to his time at Celtic – as the playmaker insisted he was “lucky” to have turned out for Scotland’s most successful club.

He stated: “Definitely, yes. Even when I’ve been away, I was in Prague with some friends and I met Marseille fans.

“You meet them all over the world, similar to Celtic. In that sense, they are both massive clubs because you always find a Marseille or a Celtic fan everywhere.

“I feel very lucky to have played for two teams that size because not many people do. And, also as a person, it has probably set me up for a lot of challenging moments.”

Matt is a terrific player, and one we would take back in a heartbeat. But unfortunately his words suggest that he has other plans further afield, perhaps in sunnier places than the East End of Glasgow.

We couldn’t even get a loan move off the ground as the Brighton owner may have his reservations after Celtic broke his Hearts at the end of last season. Doesn’t Tony Bloom still owe us an apology? More chance of Matt O’Riley signing for Celtic again than that ever happening.
