On Wednesday, AIA confirmed the referees for the 29th round of Serie A and Matteo Marchetti has been tasked with AC Milan’s game against Como.
Milan turned things around last weekend with a strong comeback win against Lecce, scoring three goals in quick succession in the second half. This time out, however, Sergio Conceicao will be looking for a more convincing win against Cesc Fabregas’ Como.
As confirmed by Serie A two days ago (via MilanNews24), Matteo Marchetti is the referee who will officiate the game between the two sides. Taking a look at the Rossoneri’s record with him, we are only talking about two games: 1-1 against Udinese in 2021-22 and 3-1 against Frosinone in 2023-24.
The Udinese clash was a tad controversial as Destiny Udogie scored the equaliser with his arm, but VAR failed to pick it up properly for Marchetti to correct his decision. It should also be noted that Daniele Doveri will be in charge of VAR.
As for Como, Marchetti has officiated three games involving them (2 draws and one defeat).
Marchetti, at 35 years of age, is still quite young and the feeling is that he could become one of the better Serie A referees. Hopefully, Milan will continue their unbeaten record with him tomorrow, even if anything but a win would be disappointing.
