Matthäus hails "good start" for Jürgen Klopp after debut draw against Netherlands

Jürgen Klopp’s tenure as Germany head coach got underway on Thursday, as his side drew 1-1 with the Netherlands in Amsterdam in their UEFA Nations League opener.

Although acknowledging that not everything was perfect, Germany legend Lothar Matthäus was pleased with what he saw.

“Jürgen Klopp has instilled something in the team – the fighting spirit. That was important. The team stood up to a strong Dutch side,” Matthäus said in his role as an RTL pundit.

“It’s a good start for Klopp, especially in this group and away against the strongest opponent. You can be satisfied with the result and the attitude, but of course there are also things that need to improve.”

Germany will be looking to claim their first win under Klopp when they face Greece on Sunday.
