Mauricio charged by STJD, could face Brasileirão ban | OneFootball

Mauricio has been charged by the STJD over an incident with Cacá during Palmeiras’ 4-0 win against Vitória, and could face a ban in the Brasileirão.

According to Globo.com, the case falls under article 254 of the CBJD, which covers violent conduct, carrying a suspension of one to six matches. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

This is a first instance decision, so Palmeiras can appeal if Mauricio is suspended. The midfielder scored one of the goals in Salvador.

Vitória argued he should have been sent off, believing he struck Cacá in the face with an elbow. Referee Alex Gomes Stefano booked him, and VAR did not recommend a review.

Later, Vitória had two players dismissed, Cacá for a violent challenge on Jhon Arias, and Luan Cândido for a robbery gesture after the first red. Both were also charged by the STJD, as was club president Fábio Mota for post-match comments questioning the refereeing.

On Thursday, Palmeiras issued a statement rejecting the remarks that challenged the refereeing, and supported the decision not to dismiss Mauricio, saying there was no excessive force. Two days later, the club released another statement questioning the STJD’s equal treatment in bringing the charge.
