Maurício has received his first Paraguay call-up after becoming a Paraguayan national in February. According to Globo.com, coach Gustavo Alfaro has named the Palmeiras midfielder for friendlies against Greece and Morocco.
The squad also features Brazil-based players Gustavo Gómez of Palmeiras, Junior Alonso of Atlético-MG, Balbuena of Grêmio, Bobadilla of São Paulo and Ramon Sosa of Palmeiras.
Paraguay, qualified for the World Cup after missing the last three editions, play Greece in Athens on 27 March, then face Morocco in Lens, France, four days later.
Maurício is eligible through his family background, as he explained in February.
He said part of his father's family is Paraguayan, his late grandmother was Paraguayan, and his father was born in Brazil but moved there as a baby. His father spent his childhood and adolescence in Paraguay before returning to Brazil for work.
