Mauricio Pochettino has just done a long feature with the Overlap, which reveals some really interesting things about his year in charge of Chelsea.

The former Spurs coach only stayed at Stamford Bridge for one year, and despite things generally going pretty well, he and the club parted ways after a season. The exclusives and briefs at the time were that he didn’t want to work with the way the club was set up, with minimal say over transfers, and with the club trying to make him take on a set piece coach.

Pochettino decided to leave Chelsea after one season

According to Pochettino however, it was more of a unilateral decision on his part:

“I’m not complaining [about how things ended] because it was my decision to leave the club.”

He tries to explain the project at the club and what he made of it, but his explanation is about as clear as the project itself.

So that makes it 2 of our last 3 managers who have effectively decided to leave because they don’t want to work in this system.

Wesley Fofana is on a lot of money, can’t play more than once a week and is in terrible form. Chelsea need to sell him – if only they could.

Xabi Alonso is a dream candidate for the Chelsea job for many fans – but it won’t be easy to land him, as he can dictate his own terms.
