Maurizio Sarri explains why he does not have good memories of Juventus | OneFootball

Maurizio Sarri was Juventus coach during the 2019/2020 season after the Bianconeri surprisingly parted ways with Max Allegri and replaced him with the former Chelsea boss.

Sarri had just won the Europa League with Chelsea, while Juventus continued to search for their first European success in about two decades. The club brought him in with the hope that he could help end that wait, but he made little progress in Europe and almost failed to win the league as well.

Sarri reflects on Juventus spell

The Scudetto Sarri won in his only season at Juventus was difficult to achieve, and it remains the last time the Bianconeri won the title. His spell at the club ended after that campaign, and he was never given the opportunity to manage the team again.

Sarri now coaches Atalanta, and today he will take his team back to Turin as they prepare to face the Old Lady. The fixture gives him another opportunity to come up against his former club, this time from the opposing dugout.

The match will also bring attention to Sarri’s time in charge of Juventus, particularly his memories of a season that ended with the club winning the league title.

Sarri discusses his Juventus experience

Ahead of the game, Sarri was asked about his spell at Juventus and reflected on the unusual circumstances surrounding his time at the club. He highlighted the impact of playing without supporters during the final part of the campaign.

Speaking via Tuttomercatoweb, he said:

“It was a strange season with the stadiums practically empty from March onwards, and perhaps that’s also why I don’t have great memories of that experience. In any case, I have no regrets.”

Sarri’s comments offer his perspective on a season that ended with Juventus securing the Scudetto but also saw his tenure at the club come to an end.

Now in charge of Atalanta, Sarri will return to Turin looking to lead his current team against the club he previously managed. Juventus will be hoping to prevent their former coach from leaving with a positive result.
